Uniform Medical Plan (UMP) Offers New Enhancements
Beginning in late January, providers will be able to view more detailed and timely information about their UMP patients, including:

  • Deductible status inquiry – find out whether the patient has met his/her deductible.
  • Coordination of benefits – check to see if another insurance carrier, including Medicare, is primary for a patient.
  • Procedure codes – new screens display procedure or revenue codes using the same verbiage shown on detail of remittance forms (DORs), making them easier to read.
  • Claims status – new message codes let providers know if a claim is in process, if more information is needed, or if the claim has been finalized. Previously, providers were only able to find out if a claim had been finalized. As always, you can send a secure email about a claim that you have questions about without having to re-type any of the information.
  • Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) registration – UMP is considering adding EFT capability through OneHealthPort. If you are interested in this service, let UMP know by submitting your contact information on UMP’s provider web site.

For more information, visit UMP’s provider portal at www.ump.hca.wa.gov/provider.

Group Health Continues to Expand Electronic Horizons
2004 was a pivotal year for advances in electronic business at Group Health, with contract providers logging over one million transactions on their provider web site, MyGroupHealth for Contracted Providers. About 70 percent of Group Health claims are now submitted electronically.

In response to your suggestions, Group Health is making these improvements:

  • Eligibility – Screens now provide more detailed eligibility and benefits information, such as varying co-payment levels, Medicare lock-in and Medicare primary identifiers, "last active" coverage information for former Group Health members, and a link from subscriber to dependent information.
  • Referrals – Contracted specialists soon will be able to send procedure notifications online. Primary care providers will be able to use the Web to extend referrals. The new durable medical equipment (DME) request screen will make it easier for any provider to request DME services for Group Health patients.

Later this year Group Health will expand referral status information to mirror what you currently receive from Group Health by letter. Plans include increasing auto-approval of referrals, improving site navigation, and making it easier to perform multiple transactions for the same patient. You will also see more detailed information in the claims status application, including line-level data.

Referrals that meet specific authorization rules will also receive immediate authorization. When a referral meets criteria, you will be notified online with the authorization number.

Take Group Health's Practitioner Satisfaction Survey
Group Health's annual Practitioner Satisfaction Survey will be available January 17 in an easy-to-use, Web-based format. Instead of filling out the survey by hand and mailing it back, you can save time by sending your feedback instantly with a few clicks of your mouse. Take the survey via a link on MyGroupHealth for Contracted Providers. All survey responses will be secure and completely confidential.

If you have questions about MyGroupHealth for Contracted Providers or the Group Health Practitioner Satisfaction Survey, please contact provider.services@ghc.org.

SPOTLIGHT ON SECURITY

Security Tips for OneHealthPort Administrators and Subscribers
Are you adequately protecting the privacy of your patients? Please review these important security reminders from Cybertrust:

Suspend the credential for any employee no longer affiliated with your organization: If someone with a OneHealthPort credential resigns, retires, is laid-off or fired, it is critical to immediately remove his or her OneHealthPort access. Go to "Manage Subscribers" and then select the link "Suspend subscriber account".

Revoke administrative privileges for a OneHealthPort administrator who is no longer affiliated with your organization: Go to "Add Administrator" function and use the secure form to send a request for the administrative privileges to be revoked.

Assign a back-up administrator: Having a back-up administrator is not only good business practice but also a security issue. If it becomes necessary to quickly delete an employee or make other immediate changes, having a back-up administrator is important if the primary administrator is on vacation or sick. Use the "Add Administrator" function to appoint a second administrator as a backup.

Reset your password: It is good practice to change your password every 90 days. If you haven't changed your password in the last six months, please do it now. It takes just a minute: go to "Manage Your Account" link and under "For Subscribers" select the "Manage My Subscriber Account" link. You'll be asked to enter your old password and then enter your new password twice. OneHealthPort passwords must include least six alphanumeric characters with one number and one letter. Remember: never share your password with anyone.

Warning from Security Expert: Avoid "Phishing" Lures
One of the newest and most dangerous cyber crimes is "phishing," a scam that targets consumers and involves stealing personal information by creating fake websites for well-known companies.

Internet con artists, known as "phishers," send out emails asking people to go to a link that resembles the web page of a legitimate company, such as a bank. Once they get people to the bogus website, they trick consumers into divulging personal data such as social security, credit card or bank account numbers, according to Ravi Ganesan, a security expert and the CEO of TriCipher. TriCipher is a San Mateo, CA company that provides security technology, including anti-phising solutions. The company provides the security technology that protects OneHealthPort and allows OneHealthPort to meet and exceed HIPAA requirements.

It is surprisingly easy for hackers to duplicate legitimate website pages and create a "phishing" scam. "Phishers" typically send the initial e-mails to huge numbers of people, hoping someone will be tempted to bite the "bait"—thus, the term "phishing".

Ganesan warns, "Never give personal information in response to an email request—no reputable company will ever ask for this type of data via email." He compares this scam to someone setting up a fake ATM machine at the mall and asking people to input their password and then not return their card. The criminal would then have the card and pin-number for access to individual accounts.

Ganesan, whose company provides security to financial, healthcare and E-commerce industries, also says to never divulge personal data to anyone who calls on the phone, even if they identify themselves as representing a legitimate organization. OneHealthPort will only request your password as part of using the service and never by phone or via email. Look for more general security updates in the next OneHealthPort Newsletter.
