OneHealthPort is introducing a great way to save time obtaining pre-authorizations from many of the health plans in Washington state. Under the recent Washington State Admin Simp law, public and private payers are working with providers to simplify the pre-authorization process. One result of this work is a new "One-Stop-Shop" web page for providers to easily access information about how Washington state payers handle pre-authorizations.

This information is on the OneHealthPort website and will be rolled out in phases:

  • The first set of online capabilities allows providers to access a health plan's pre-authorization requirements, clinical criteria and to fill out a pre-authorization request or admit notification.
  • The second set of online capabilities will allow providers to submit their pre-authorization requests and admit notifications, receive acknowledgements, and check pre-authorization statuses electronically.

As you will see on the One-Stop-Shop page, many Washington state health plans have already begun using the first set of tools and some have even begun implementing the second phase. Check out the page, see if the plans you do business with are listed and start saving time on your pre-authorization requests.

We at OneHealthPort would like to wish you a happy new year! We know that this is one of the busiest times of the year, but we encourage you to set aside a little time each month to check out your OneHealthPort account and make sure everything is working properly. We have a suite of tools available to both administrators and subscribers and training videos that explain those tools at our Training Center.

As an administrator we suggest that you set aside a time on your calendar each month to:

    1. Check on the subscribers linked to your organization to see if they are currently active and when they last logged into their account. This is a a very important step to protect your patients' privacy and remain complint with HIPAA.

    2. Check e-mail addresses to make sure that they are still current. Many of OneHealthPort's automated functions send information directly to the e-mail listed in the account so e-mail addresses must be updated so that tools like the password reset function can work for you.

    3. Check to see if your account currently has two administrators. OneHealthPort strongly recommends that you have at least two administrators for every account in case one administrator is unavailable.

    4. Check to see if any practitioners have joined or left your organization. In the add/edit tax id tool you can add, remove and change tax ids.

    5. Check to make sure that your address is listed correctly on your account. If you have moved recently this step is especially important. In the modify profile section you can update your organizations address and phone number.

OneHealthPort offers a new free service to providers: ProviderSource

You can now use your OneHealthPort log-in to access ProviderSource - a free service that can reduce credentialing hassles for Washington state practitioners. ProviderSource is an easy-to-use online portal to the OneHealthPort Provider Data Service, a statewide system hosted by OneHealthPort for centralized collection, verification and distribution of all provider data to be used for credentialing and privileging in Washington state. This new data management service will also help collect the data for a new Provider Directory for the Washington State Health Information Exchange (HIE).

Here's how it works. If you are a OneHealthPort administrator for your organization, when you log into ProviderSource, you will first access Account Manager. Account Manager allows you to manage the individual provider records for all the practitioners in your organization. Each practitioner will need their own OneHealthPort login. Here are some basic steps to take to start using the ProviderSource application:

  • Nominate each practitioner in your organization who is normally credentialed or privileged for their own OneHealthPort login.(watch a video on how to nominate users)
  • Make sure the practitioner accounts get activated by setting a password and secret questions and answers.
  • Each practitioner account needs to have a role of "Licensed Practitioner" in order to appear in the ProviderSource application.
  • The practitioner accounts will also need a Browser Second Factor in order to electronically sign their attestation. (watch a video and find out more about Browser Second Factor)
You can start entering data on your practitioners as soon as you have their login set up in OneHealthPort and their account appears in Account Manager for ProviderSource

See Premera's redesigned Forms page at premera.com/provider. The Forms section includes collapsible form sections and detailed form descriptions - see screen print below. The forms are now easier to find and include brief descriptions to help providers select the correct form.

Clinical Review by Code List

Premera has added the Clinical View by Code List on the Care Management page at premera.com/provider The Clinical View by Code List has the most current list of procedure codes that require review for medical necessity. Updates to the list will be posted on a monthly basis. The list is sorted by code and contains information on supporting document requirements. This enhancement was the result of a collaborative workshop with Premera and providers, focused on improving the medical records process.

Utilization Review Section

Premera's provider portal now includes a Utilization Review section. Premera grouped together information and tools for prospective review, admission notification and advanced imaging in this section to provide easier access for providers. Using these tools will help simplify the Prospective Review and Admission Notification processes.

  • Prospective Review Tool: Check procedure codes to determine if a benefit advisory is recommended or prior authorization is required.
  • Admission Notification Tool: Notify Premera of inpatient admissions, allowing them to verify benefits, link your patients to other programs, and assess your patients' need for case management.
  • Advanced Imaging: Review the list of services that require prospective review and an order number from Advanced Imaging Management (AIM).

These tools also enable Premera to meet the requirements of Washington's Senate Bill 5346, which requires health plans to:

  • Consider extenuating circumstances and adhere to timeliness standards in processing requests for pre-authorization; and,
  • Establish browser-based tools to facilitate pre-authorization requests from providers.

This webinar will present the results of a 2010 survey of over 50 medical groups in the Puget Sound region regarding their current use of specific tools and processes for effective patient care. Presenter

Susie Dade, Director of Performance Improvement for the Puget Sound Health Alliance, was principal author of the study and will be the main presenter. Joining her will be one or more physicians from local practices to give detailed comments on the specific aspects of best practice tools and processes being discussed.

Peter McGough, MD, UW associate clinical professor of family medicine and chief medical officer of the UW Medicine Neighborhood Health Centers will participate as a commenter.

  • Admission Notification Tool: Notify LifeWise of inpatient admissions, allowing them to verify benefits, link your patients to other programs, and assess your patients' need for case management.
  • Advanced Imaging: Review the list of services that require prospective review and an order number from Advanced Imaging Management (AIM).

These tools also enable LifeWise to meet the requirements of Washington's Senate Bill 5346, which requires health plans to:

  • consider extenuating circumstances and adhere to timeliness standards in processing requests for pre-authorization; and,
  • Establish browser-based tools to facilitate pre-authorization requests from providers.

The Statewide HIE achieved two important milestones in December and as the New Year begins, implementation of the Secure HUB service is underway.

  • On December 13, the Office of the National Coordinator (ONC) approved the Strategic and Operational Plan submitted by the HCA and OneHealthPort. ONC's approval was critical in that it freed up $10.3M in ARRA funds for HIE implementation. The Plans as approved were similar to the documents submitted to the ONC this summer. The most notable change was that the ONC required the Statewide HIE HUB to agree to provide access for NW-HIN Direct users.

  • With the approved Plans in hand OneHealthPort was able to successfully conclude its contract negotiation with Axway for Secure HUB services. The contract was signed just before the end of the year. Thanks to our partners at HCA for smoothing the way with the ONC approval and the flow of funds. And, thanks to our partners at Axway for delivering great terms that will allow us to bring the HIE to market at a very reasonable price.

OneHealthPort staff has begun working with Axway to implement the Secure HUB service. For practices and hospitals, the HUB will make it easier to exchange business and clinical information on a system-to-system basis with other providers, payers and public agencies. The HUB can also assist provider organizations who are pursuing Meaningful Use. We expect to begin the initial marketing effort in early Q 2. Check back here for more detailed information.
